News

Stroke Matters, The Stroke Association quarterly e-publication for professionals in health and social care was launched at the UK Stroke Forum in December 2008. The publication promises to deliver interesting and accurate news on stroke issues, carefully selected by an expert multidisciplinary editorial board comprising leading stroke specialists.
Stroke Matters will cover: stroke policy and practice; the latest stroke research and updates on the Stroke Research Network, upcoming conferences
and news from The Stroke Association. To subscribe for free, please email
your details to strokematters@stroke.org.uk.

The latest issue is due out on the 3rd February 2010

 

LAST SRR MEETING

An excellent Summer Meeting was held at Sheffield Hallam University on the 7th & 8th July at the Colleigate Campus. The meeting was hosted by SRR Council member Professor John Saxton. Our thanks to local organisers, Jill Hitchenor and all at Confernce 21 for their hard work in administering this conference.

VERNA WRIGHT PRIZES 2009

2009 Verna Prize Winners  

Congratulations to Sarah Demain for her presentation at the Summer meeting in Bath. She is the winner of the Verna Wright prize for oral presentation this year. Also congratulations to Ruth Turk for her poster presentation also at the Summer meeting in Bath. She wins the Verna Wright prize for the best poster presentation of the year. Prizes will be presented at the Winter meeting in Salford, 2010.

SRR Council member John Saxton was recently appointed Professor of Clinical Exercise Physiology at the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich. Previously a Reader in the Centre for Sport and Exercise Science at Sheffield Hallam University, he has joined UEA's School of Allied Health Professions in the Faculty of Health. John's research interests are focused on the role of exercise in the management of long-term conditions and the impact that habitual physical activity can have in the primary and secondary prevention of chronic diseases. He has received funding from various sources including the British Heart Foundation, American Institute for Cancer Research, Cancer Research UK, Food Standards Agency and the MS Society and is the senior editor of a new book on exercise and cancer survivorship recently published by Springer. John is hosting the SRR Summer Conference at Sheffield Hallam University on July 7-8th, 2010.
